About HFBG

High Functioning Black Girls (HFBG) is a wellness-centered community for Black women who are tired of pretending to be okay, conforming to societal expectations, and shrinking themselves in order to survive. We exist for those who are ready to choose resistance—resistance to burnout, silence, and the constant pressure to perform strength.

Founded in 2022 by Taryn Hill, a social worker and advocate for Black women’s well-being, HFBG was created in response to the emotional labor, chronic stress, and unspoken expectations placed on Black women. We are often praised for being strong and high functioning, yet rarely given permission to feel, rest, or take up space as our full selves.

HFBG is a safe space for Black women to feel their feelings—without fear judgment or lack of acceptance. We believe emotional expression is not weakness; it is wisdom.

Here, Black women are encouraged to name what they are carrying, honor their needs, and unlearn survival-based patterns that no longer serve them.

Our work centers mental health, emotional awareness, boundaries, and sustainable well-being.

Through community conversations, workshops, digital resources, and culturally grounded content, we support Black women in choosing themselves and building lives rooted in care rather than constant coping.

High Functioning Black Girls is not about doing more or proving worth. It’s about choosing yourself, taking up space, and living beyond survival.

Welcome to High Functioning Black Girls—where Black women are allowed to feel, rest, and be fully human.
